Join hundreds of dynamic women at our 2020 Women’s Forum, hosted by United Way of Central Maryland’s Women United to celebrate its 20th anniversary. Women United is building a movement to break barriers for Maryland residents that are unable to make ends meet despite their best efforts. Participants will be galvanized by inspiring panelists, workshops, and presentations to help us create meaningful, measurable change—TogetHER.
Featuring Stephanie Land, author of The New York Times best-seller, Maid: Hard Work, Low Pay, and a Mother’s Will to Survive. It’s easy to take for granted the people who maintain the systems that allow us to navigate our daily lives with ease: delivery drivers, grocery store stockers, childcare providers, cleaning service staff, orderlies and nursing assistants, clerks, and receptionists. These are hardworking people in low-paying jobs—sometimes more than one or two—who are forced to make precarious decisions about where their earnings will go: Rent, or groceries? Car insurance or health insurance? Land’s story of being overworked and underpaid is a reality for a staggering one in three Marylanders and illuminates the reality of poverty in our country.
