Nature Nurtures Symposium 2022

A project of Baltimore Connecting Children to Nature, the free Nature Nurtures Symposium is a platform for building skills and developing a like-minded community with an equal stake in education, environmental access, youth, healing, and the benefits of nature. This a one-day, in-person gathering on Saturday, June 25th from 9:30am-3:30pm at The William S. Baer School (2001 N. Warwick Avenue) in west Baltimore, and will consist of:

– A keynote speech and Q&A session with the founder of Backyard Basecamp and BLISS Meadows, key originator of the Baltimore Children’s Outdoor Bill of Rights, and winner of the inaugural Richard Louv Prize for Innovation in Nature Connection, Atiya Wells

– Trainings on responding to trauma in youth and healing-centered practices from the Black Mental Health Alliance and Baltimore City Health Department

– Workshops, both indoors and outdoors, covering topics including botanical art, nature-based mental health and resiliency, developing curricula and action projects around the outdoors, and more, delivered by local youth and adult leaders from a variety of disciplines

– Space for networking and conversations with a diverse range of like-minded people

Coffee, snacks, and lunch (including vegetarian and vegan options) will be provided. Registrants will also be eligible to sign up for a sunset paddle on the Middle Branch led by the Baltimore City Department of Recreation & Parks the evening before the symposium, on Friday June 24th.

Masks must be worn during the indoor portions of the event. Proof of COVID-19 vaccination or a negative COVID-19 test result taken no more than one day before the event will be required for entrance.
