Santé - A Taste of Baltimore
ABOUT THE VENUE
We'll gather in the Jim Rouse Visionary Center located on the 3rd floor of the American Visionary Art Museum (AVAM) in Baltimore. The boundary-busting AVAM houses a collection of art produced by self taught individuals, usually without formal training, whose works arise from an innate personal vision that revels foremost in the creative act itself.
ABOUT the National Kidney Foundation Serving Maryland and Delaware: Fueled by passion and urgency, National Kidney Foundation is a lifeline for all people affected by kidney disease. As pioneers of scientific research and innovation, NKF focuses on the whole patient through the lens of kidney health. Relentless in our work, we enhance lives through action, education and accelerating change.
The National Kidney Foundation is the largest, most comprehensive and longstanding organization dedicated to the awareness, prevention and treatment of kidney disease. For more information, visit www.kidneymd.org.
“Santé is a delicious and fun night out and easy way to become engaged and learn about a major health crisis in our community,” said event chair Sumeska Thavarajah, MD (assistant professor of medicine – Division of Nephrology at Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center and chair of NKFMDDE’s Medical Advisory Board). “People with kidney disease need our support. Join us and make a difference.”
Kidney disease is the 9th leading cause of death nationwide and affects 1 in 9 Marylanders. Santé proceeds will support NKFMDDE’s local patient emergency assistance program, providing essentials such as medication, food, transportation to dialysis, housing costs and utilities. Dollars raised also help fund vital research from the top nephrologists at Johns Hopkins Medicine and University of Maryland Medical Center.
Melanie Molinaro (executive chef at Little Fig Bake Shop and Little Gem Prepared Meals) is the Santé restaurant recruitment chair. The cause is personal as she experienced kidney issues since age 4 and was in and out of hospitals until age 21.
