Join us celebration honoring the legacy of Charles P. Tilghman and the Sphinx. Live music, great history and a wonderful celebration of Baltimore's Black History. The Sphinx which ran from 1946-1992, was Baltimore’s premiere members-only club and its owner, Charles P. Tilghman. It was the hottest club on Pennsylvania Avenue with great music and appearances by celebrities such as Joe Louis, Duke Ellington, Redd Foxx and Billie Holiday. But during the day, Charles Tilghman would also open the club to organizers of voter registration drives and civil rights campaigns.
