Praised by the New York Times as a pianist with "assurance and vitality," 27-year-old Alan Woo has already acquired considerable performance experience since starting the piano at age four.

Most recently, Mr. Woo was named a prizewinner at the 2017 Ima Hogg and Iowa Piano Competitions.  His other accolades include top prizes at The Juilliard School’s 2014 Gina Bachauer Piano Competition and 2010 Concerto Competition, as well as the 2009 IIYM International Piano Competition.

At 19, Mr. Woo made his Lincoln Center debut at Alice Tully Hall, performing Sergei Prokofiev's Piano Concerto No. 3 with the Juilliard Orchestra under the baton of Maestro Yannick Nézet-Séguin.  The New York Times described his performance as "unerring: he produced the speed and fury required in the outer movements but maintained the control necessary to keep the rapid piano figuration fully in sync [...] The other side of his pianism -- the gentle, pianissimo playing [...] was equally impressive."  

Mr. Woo has since also collaborated with conductors Daniel Hege, Miguel Harth-Bedoya and Tito Muñoz in solo appearances with the Houston and Fort Worth Symphonies, and the Music Academy of the West Festival Orchestra.  Other recent performances include solo recital engagements throughout the United States, Puerto Rico, and the Netherlands. Mr. Woo has been featured on The McGraw Hill Financial Young Artists Showcase broadcasted on WQXR in New York, and has performed in venues such as Carnegie Hall’s Weill and Zankel Recital Halls, the Lied Center at Kansas University, Lawrence Arts Center, and at the U.S. Department of State.  An avid chamber musician, Mr. Woo has made appearances at La Jolla Music Society’s SummerFest, the Brooklyn Chamber Music Society, Juilliard’s ChamberFest, and the Aspen and Bowdoin International Music Festivals.

Born in Arlington, Virginia, Mr. Woo completed his Bachelor and Master of Music degrees at The Juilliard School as a student of Robert McDonald.  He currently resides in Baltimore, Maryland, where he is pursuing doctoral studies at the Peabody Institute with a Dean’s DMA Fellowship under the guidance of Yong Hi Moon.  His past teachers also include Scott McBride Smith, Douglas Ashcraft, and Rosita Kerr Mang.
