Terry attended Morgan State University developing a love for Black Music Research and the contributions of African American Musicians to American Music. He has published scholarly works in The Black Perspective and the Black Music Research Journal. His early jazz studies with Thomas Grice (brother of Gigi Gryce) further developed his love of jazz improvisation and teaching.
