Vegan lovers and the vegan-curious can sit it with Mixolo on our Meatless Monday stop on a foodie expedition during Vegan Restaurant Week in Baltimore. No plus-one required. We'll venture to the lo-conic The Land of Kush, the groundbreaking and nationally renowned vegan diner restaurant in the Seton Hill neighborhood of Baltimore, MD.
It’s the #yearofthevegan according to The Economist. There’s still time to make and easily fulfill one new year's resolution. Getting healthy is always at the top of the list. It starts with food. Maryland Vegan Eats, the organizers behind Baltimore Vegan Restaurant Week is offering a gateway, if you haven’t already experimented with or adopted a plant-based diet.
It’s a great time of year for a warm welcome with a warm meal, sans animal products or by products. The Land of Kush’s menu is stocked with meat alternatives that feel like familiar foods and delicious quintessentially vegan dishes as well. Their vegan crab cake with classic Old-Bay seasoning is to live for! And it was named as one of the top ten vegan dishes nationwide by PETA.
BALTIMORE VEGAN RESTAURANT WEEK:
Land of Kush co-founder, Naijha Wright-Brown, and co-organizer of the uber-successful annual Vegan Soul Fest, joined forces with Samantha Juengel, owner of Golden West Café, one of Hampden, Baltimore’s favorite diner restaurants, to create Maryland Vegan Eats to raise awareness on the benefits of a plant-based diet though fun, community-based experiences throughout the state. Find out more at: www.mdveganeats.com.
All restaurants are invited to participate, even if they are not vegan. Offering vegan items on the menu makes sense. The benefits of a plant-based diet are not only beneficial for the animals. A wholesome vegan diet can keep many chronic and serous diseases at bay.
MORE ABOUT LAND OF KUSH:
The Land of Kush is a mainstay in historic Seton Hill attracting diners from all over with some notable international celebrities for good measure. Chef and co-founder, Gregory Brown, stumbled into a career as vegan chef out of necessity. In the 90s when he made the switch from eating meat, there were few sources for vegetarian or vegan options. Through trial and error and demand for his unique recipes, he, along with his wife, Naijha, eventually created their vegan soul food restaurant, Land of Kush, with the intention of starting a movement in the community to healthier plant-based options.
