Benito Gonzalez presents a solo jazz piano presentation of the music of McCoy Tyner
Born into a family of Venezuelan folk musicians, jazz pianist Benito Gonzalez has always had a deep-rooted appreciation for tradition. Today, as a rising star, Gonzalez follows in the footsteps of jazz’s ancestral forebears. To date, he has shared the stage with heavy hitters like Christian McBride, Roy Hargrove, Antonio Sanchez, T.K. Blue, and Nicholas Payton, and garnered critical acclaim for his work on Kenny Garrett’s Grammy-nominated album Seeds from the Underground. The fusion of world rhythms and straight-ahead jazz make this passionate performer an audience favorite all over the world. For this concert, Benito is paying tribute to his biggest inspiration, pianist McCoy Tyner.
McCoy Tyner was a famous jazz pianist and won five Grammy Awards during his career. He is best known for his involvement with the John Coltrane Quartet as well as the music he composed after he left the group. The Benito Gonzalez Trio performed some of Tyner’s well-known jazz pieces with effortless teamwork.
