The Sacred Heart Parish invites the community to attend its fourth annual Christmas concert on Friday, December 14th at 7:00 p.m. at Sacred Heart Parish’s Main Church, 65 Sacred Heart Lane, Glyndon, Maryland. Several local professional women performers are headlining the concert, including soprano and Sacred Heart parishioner, Toni A. Stefano, violist Catherine Frey and pianist Shannon K. Harmon. The concert also features: Sacred Heart Choir soprano Liza Paredes; dancers from the Sacred Heart community, including Heidi Noel-Sheehan Moore, Brigid Klein and Maddie Conway; and the Sacred Heart Children’s Chorus, led by Sacred Heart’s Music Director, Katie Angerer.
A collection of classical and Christmas pieces will be performed including favorites by: Vaughan Williams, Mozart, Tchaikovsky and Faure. In the spirit of the season, the audience will also enjoy Mary Did You Know; the Nutcracker Suite and Carol of the Bells among other beloved holiday numbers. The Sacred Heart Children’s Chorus will join the musicians for A Christmas Wish and We Wish You a Merry Christmas.
Acclaimed by the Baltimore Sun for her “fine” and “heartfelt renditions,” Toni A. Stefano made her operatic debut as Papagena in Mozart’s Die Zauberflöte. She also appeared as Anne Truelove in The Rake’s Progress, Countess Maria Luisa in With Blood, With Ink, Julia Herriton in the world premiere of Where Angels Fear to Tread, Louise Mallard in The Joy That Kills, Despina in Mozart’s Cosi Fan Tutte, Lucy in Menotti’s The Telephone, and Lauretta in Puccini’s Gianni Schicci. Ms. Stefano earned her Master of Voice and an artist diploma in opera from the Peabody Conservatory of Music in Baltimore, Maryland. She earned her Bachelor of Music in Voice Performance from the University of Akron. Ms. Stefano has been teaching voice at the McDonogh School for 20 years.
Violist Catherine Frey is also a graduate of the Peabody Conservatory, where she studied with Richard Field, principal violist of the Baltimore Symphony. Ms. Frey made her solo debut at age 16 with the Rollins College Baroque Ensemble in Winter Park, Florida and with the Great River Symphony in La Crosse, Wisconsin. Presently, she performs with the Lancaster Symphony, the Shippensburg Music Festival, Chesapeake Orchestra and Opera Delaware. Recently, Ms. Frey attended the Baroque Performance Institute at Oberlin College, Oberlin Ohio. An avid educator, Ms. Frey teaches violin and viola at the McDonogh School, the Gilman School, and the Friends School of Baltimore, and she coaches the viola section of the FAME youth orchestra. Since 2016, she has been the head of the McDonogh School string department.
An accomplished pianist, Shannon K. Harmon, received her Master of Piano Performance and a minor in ethnomusicology from Indiana University, where she held a piano graduate teaching assistantship. She earned her Bachelor of Music in Piano Performance from Bowling Green State University. Among her many accolades, Ms. Harmon won the Toledo Symphony Orchestra's Women's League Young Artist Competition, has performed concertos with the Toledo and Perrysburg Symphony Orchestras, and recorded on America's Finest Singing Machine, B.G.S.U. Men's Chorus Twentieth Anniversary recording. She currently teaches piano at the McDonogh School and at Music for the Young Child in the Baltimore area. She is also in demand as an adjudicator for regional festivals and the National Piano Playing Auditions.
